Biked to work in the morning, and ran home from work, taking a couple of walking breaks. 5 miles in 55 minutes. FELT SO GOOD!!!!!!  The moon was out, almost full, right behind the Washington Monument. So gorgeous! It was hot today - so I felt like I haven't missed running in the summer after all!

Great run! What did the doc have you do to keep from reinjury? it does feel good to run again, eh!

From Lucia on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 09:46:27

It really was, Marion!

The doc wasn't much help... but I've been getting advice from a physical therapist and coach, got new shoes, and need to just start slow and build up mileage, cross-train, stretch lots, and lose 20 lbs (well, this last one is self-imposed, but nevertheless necessary. I really think I increased my mileage too fast and that's why I got injured, and also I think I was wearing the wrong shoes.

Stretching is HUGE!! and very neglected. THe 10% rule is a good one to follow for mileage increase. You are going to do GREAT!!! Slow and steady wins the race!

You are lucky with the heat right now! we instantly went into winter here! it sucks. Lucia, you should buy a couple pairs of shoes and rotate them. It will help with nagging leg problems. I have several pairs that I rotate and since Ive done that I havnt had problems.

So since you ran home after biking to work does that mean you have to run to work today and bike home? lol

From Lucia on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 10:02:29

We really are lucky with the weather, though it's supposed to be cold tomorrow. I like cold though.

I was rotating between some Asics and some Saucony's when I got injured... I think it was the Saucony's that hurt me, and I was wearing Superfeet too - I don't think I needed those. But yes, I'll get one more pair of shoes to rotate. Thanks for the advice Wall-e! You coming to pace me to Austin?

Now come on Walterboy, you know I need to take it easy for a while! No running two days in a row for one more week! Though you know I want to!!!

From walter on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 10:14:02

Thats funny but I had the same problems when I rotated from Saucony and asics. Asics seem to be my shoe!

Austin? I thought you were doing R&R Arizona woman? Im signing up to do that one right now. Although I really want to do Austin, but not this year. I want to come off of SGM and keep training hard for it to try and blast a good time. Is Austin what your doing then?

From Lucia on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 10:16:59

I really, really wanted to do RNR AZ, Wally... but everyone tells me it's just too soon and I'll get re-injured, so I'm waiting an extra month and doing Austin. I may still go to Phoenix to do the half, visit friends, and meet you, Misty and other bloggers... After your awesome performance in SGM in those conditions I can't wait to see what you can do in Phoenix!

Yup, Asics is IT for me as well!

If I run the full Ill just pace Trick or someone that wants to get a BQ. Then Ill start training hard for Boston.
