Day 1 of back to focusing on nutrition! My goal for the week is to eat healthy and not over-eat as I have been. If I concentrate on eating when I'm hungry and not give in to office treats, I will be back to my normal weight in no time. I'm also going to attend a WeightWatchers meeting on Friday - the first meeting is free so what the heck, I'm going to check it out. Maybe having the incentive of getting weighed in every week and having to face others will get me motivated.

Morning weight: 148. Ouch. That really, really hurt.

Biked to work, 30 min elliptical after work, biked home, walked to Eastern Market with neighbors George and Amanda, walked back home.

Day 1 of focusing of nutrition over and went well. One day at a time, like the very wise Jillzo from the Blog said!

You seem pretty tall and the picture shows that you look pretty fit. Don't let weight be the only factor. You may have a lot of muscle on that frame. Can I suggest buying a body fat scale to measure your fat loss.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Matt - my picture is from 2 years ago (I have it here for inspiration to what I want to go back to look like) I was about 15 lbs. lighter then. So, while I'm still at my healthy "range", to be a faster runner and feel better about myself (and not have to spend $$ in an entire new wardrobe), I'd like to lose 15-20 lbs.

I didn't know body fat scales even existed - I need to look into that - any suggestions on a specific brand/type? Thanks again!

Weird thing - I meant to save this entry for edit until later tonight... I guess now I'll have to stick to what I wrote up there ;)

I'm so with you on the weight thing. I'm within the healthy range but need to loose about 15 lbs. I think WW is a pretty good program, it helped me alot with portion control, that for me is probably the hardest thing. But we can do it right?

From Lucia on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 10:16:11

I think so, Lori! I've been trying for a long time and can't seem to manage my nervous eating at night especially... that's why I think maybe having someone to account to every week may help me.

I'm almost 5'8" and built big, but I was 130 lbs. not long ago and felt great and looked healthy, not too skinny at all.

From marion on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 14:17:24

Hey Lucia! WW is a great way to get eating under control. The meetings are wonderful. I never missed during my 82 lbs loss. I lead three a week now and it is really the greatest program for the average person. Be sure to track you activity really well. One thing that very active WW members forget is that they are VERY ACTIVE! The activity points you earn need to be eaten if you are truly hungry. And of course you already know, the points you eat need to be the best food choices you can make. With as active as you are, everything you put into your body needs to be the very best. Now, I am not saying that a night out once a week is taboo at all, but 80-90% of the time, your food needs to be the highest grade fuel! (you know this though ;)

You are going to be so much fun in the meetings! I wish you were coming to my meetings :)

From Lucia on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 14:21:40

Awww thanks Marion! I wish I could go to your meetings too! I've done the WW points system online before and know how well it works, but I think now I need the extra push of being held accountable at the meetings. I have to remember that analogy: my body needs the best fuel!

I looked at my scale and the Brand is Tainta. It wasn’t to badly priced as I recall ( I think my wife got it at Bed Bath and Beyond or some other big box department store). You can program it for Height and weight and fitness level along with an athletic or non-athletic setting. Based off of lifetime fitness. It also spits out calorie levels for your weight and activity level. I can send you a picture if you like.

From marion on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 16:23:29

I have the Tanita too. There are many different makes. The problem with the body fat % is that it is based on averages of the population. The only true measure is in a tank of bodpod at a university or hospital. The weight is very accurate though. WW uses the "legal for trade" tanita's that are about $500. My home tanita is .2 lbs higher than the WW scales. I got mine from Amazon.com

From Lucia on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 16:44:55

Thanks Matt!

Marion, I'd use the scale to measure the changes in my body composition day to day; I wouldn't want to compare it with anything/anyone else (just like my heart rate!) Do you think all WW have that sort of scale? If that's the case, maybe I don't need to buy one and can just use the one they have...

From marion on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 16:52:10

It would be my guess that they do. I really like to weigh everyday too. I almost bought one of the Tanita professional ones but then my hubby, who pretty much NEVER tells me not to buy something said, "How much? (choke/cough) How many days a week do you work there? Couldn't you just use their scales?" He hardly flinched when I said I was buying the Tanita home scale for $130. By that point he thought it was a GREAT deal :)

From Matt on Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 16:58:44

My wife got me mine for my birthday about 4 years ago. I think it was in the $39.00 to $49.00 range at the time. It isn't professional quality but it does shoot an electric stimulus through your foot (which I can't feel) and based on the return time it posts the BF%. I have found things like an ankle sprain or temp (higher BF in cold less in heat) have a slight effect but for the most part it has been great.
