Went on a one-hour bike ride with the Luna girls last night, prompted by a tip by the talented fellow fastrunningblogger Jill - thanks for the tip Jill! Girl's night was great! Got lots of free stuff and a self-defense class. Then came back to the office and after a quick shower I was ready for a dinner date :)  I figured since most bloggers are married they may get a kick out of reading about the dating life of a girl living in DC. The one thing that I know now for sure, that took me a long time to figure out, is that my significant other has to be somewhat athletic and/or like the outdoors! The guy I went to dinner with last night, whose nickname is "pink cowboy" because he was jokingly wearing a pink cowboy hat at the barbeque where we met, not only is a runner but he pretty much runs exactly my pace. The food was delicious and we had a great time - one of those nights you wish never ended, with the waiters waiting for you to leave to close the restaurant.

I managed to get up early this morning after not much sleep for one hour in the swimming pool: 15 minutes breast stroke, 30 minutes aqua jogging (including some "intervals" without the aquabelt), then 15 more minutes breast stroke.

After work I'm going on another slow bike ride with my co-worker Diego. He's one of those that I call "social exerciser" - he never does any exercise unless it's with other people. So it feels good to know I'm helping him out be healthier.

Great workout! Super fun date! I really don't ever want to date again, but having said that, wonderful dates were so...well... WONDERFUL way back when.

You are a cross training FOOL!!! How does the leg feel?

From Lucia on Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 12:22:11

Thanks Marion - I'm not a big fan of dates either. My thing as of late is to go on running/hiking/biking dates. More relaxed, you know? So after a few of those, a dinner date feels more natural and easier. That's why last night was fun :) I am learning to relax and have fun and not think of the guys as my prince charming but someone interesting that could become a good friend if nothing else.

The leg feels fine, I never really had pain at all, but I have to remember the fracture is still there and cross-train the heck out of myself!

Fear not Princess Lucia, I will rescue you from that evil dragon! lol Sorry for the sarcasm. I am that evil dragon.

Sounds like a great time!!! You are doing great with all this cross training, I bet you will come back even stronger!

Braveheart

Theres one on the boston marathon with Ralph in it thats pretty darn funny. I forgot the name of it though.

I figured since you touched the 80's moies

From jill on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 21:06:30

Walter, "Every man dies, but not every man really lives!" Braveheart!!! You are so right!

Now, poor Deena Kastor- so very sad!!!! And, what is this romanian front runner sniffing? Seriously? Why smelling salt at the half way????

From walter on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 23:46:01

I just got home from a water park, what happened to Deena Kastor? And tell me about the romanian.

From Lucia on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 02:37:12

I imagine by now you read it online or something... but Deena was injured and had to pull off the race at mile 3.

It's going to be a busy weekend for me, got lots of good movies to watch with your recommendations!

I always wonder how I would handle that situation if it were me. Im not even on that level she is on either, yet! But that is alot of training, prep work and for us money especially when its out of state let alone out of country. But I always worry about that.

From Lucia on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 10:02:19

My guess is that you, Walter, would just run the race until the pain was so excruciating that you can no longer keep going... am I right or am I right???

From walter on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 10:15:09

Yeah, honestly you have me pegged! I would start thinking about my immediate plans, like if I keep running and need a cast, 2am I going to mess up any future events? Ok good, Im finishing this sucker!

I ran a marathon after I messed up my IT band and Achilles and rehab it all the way up to two weeks before the race. I felt good and at mile 18 my leg was toast. I went up to a cop car and was using his car to stretch and he told me to just get in his car. I told him Id have to be hand cuffed with a good reason to get in his car. He just laughed. I walk ran the rest of the way in with a 3:20 time and if I wouldnt have finished, I would be less a man! lol

From jill on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 11:51:37

jeez guys, I go to bed for like 8 hours and you guys have 8 conversations going on at once! walter, its pretty insane to hear you say that with a bad leg you still finished 3:20. Walter, have you ever heard of sniffing salts? or anything during a race? I am just curious... Can you snort carbs?

Lucia, That is AWESOME that you were in Baltimore to see Phelps. I was up so late watching. He was in utter disbelief. He is such a well poised and articulate guy. So inspiring.

Happy weekend.. I am going to the public pool later - I love it beautiful pool and only 6$ to get in!

From walter on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 12:01:14

thats funny jill, you know I have heard of smelling salts. I havnt actually seen anyone use them in running, but Ill have to look into the carb snorting. lol I know that our muscles cramp up from sodium defisate. I read an article to chew tums before you reach the wall and it can help you through it. Im sure the gu's have the same thing also. Just a little salt pick me up.

Wow, 6 bucks for a shot of chlorine huh? Say hello to split ends and dry scalp.
