Jingle All the Way baby! Team "Santa's Little Jinglers" rocked! Thanks to cool guys and of course fastrunningbloggers Ben (Dutch) and Aaron (Running with Pepper)!!! They did awesome!

The morning was chill and sunny - I biked down to the start line and made it exactly in time. Along the way, I thought I saw teammate Tricia - so I yelled out "Tricia!" to which a very confused runner girl who wasn't Tricia replied "Ohio Drive"... I'm not sure how someone could confuse the word "Tricia" with "Where's the start line"? but it was pretty funny.

First to show up was smiling coolboy Aaron, always looking sharp and ready to run a great race no matter what - and he was wearing shorts! The others came by one by one (I had picked up the race packets for 10 other runners) and finally Ben made it, just a few minutes before the start of the race - yes I almost did want to kill you Ben, but I forgive you because you ran such a fast race, and because you are so nice, cute, and brought some very cool friends with you to the post-race party... :)  I realized then that I didn't have time to bring my backpack to the bag drop, so I decided to take a chance and lock it as well as I could with my bicycle... Thankfully, it was there when I came back.

The race started nicely - I felt like I was going fast for the first mile, then my shins started to feel tight and I had to slow way down... a lot of people passed me in the next mile. I thought I should slow down and run with the other girls and just enjoy the day, so I didn't worry. Around mile 2.5, my legs were feeling better and I started going a bit faster. By mile 4 I realized I could actually break 50 minutes - so I sped up a bit. By mile 5 I thought maybe I could break 48 - that didn't happen... When I could see the clock, I realized I could make it before 50 - I saw Ben on the side and he cheered me on as I sprinted to the finish line and finished strong at 49:38 - not bad for the training I've had lately, my legs in bad condition, and only a few hours of sleep (it was my birthday last night!)

Celebrated with Aaron, Ben, and Patrick, the first 3 guys in the team - we were able to finish 11th out of 49 teams! Not too bad at all!

After the race I invited all runners and other friends to my place for some food and drinks. It was soooo nice to be able to catch up with old friends, meet new very cool friends, and talk about running, life, and the pursuit of happiness!

Thank you SO VERY VERY MUCH Ben and Aaron for your unbelievable greatness! And thank you to Sasha and the blog for introducing me to such fabulous runners!

Here are some photos of the three bloggers for your viewing pleasure - and yes, they are THAT good looking!

And here is the rest of our team:

Happy Sunday runners! Have a fabulous running week!

Nice race! I agree that Ben is indeed cute, and always has cool friends. And very tall as well.

From dutch on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 10:30:30

aww stop-you guys are gonna make me blush...

From Lucia on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 12:18:51

That's right Paul! And don't forget his dashing smile and stunning reddish/blonde hair! :)

I look so short in those pictures! Ben and Aaron must've been wearing high heels!

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 14:29:21

Decent run. Nice to know that had you continued for the marathon at the average pace of this 10 K you would have been 10 minutes ahead of BQ.

If your shins would allow, try racing a half at 8:00 pace and see how you feel.

Between now and Myrtle Beach you will need the mileage. With the shin issue, maybe do half of it on a bike or via some other form of cross-training.

In the marathon - go out at 8:10 pace and hold it until you cannot or until you finish. After that do not worry, jog, walk, even drop out if you feel unsafe about your health.

From Lucia on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 15:00:28

Thank you Sasha - I need to update my calendar; I'm no longer planning to race Myrtle Beach, and I'm postponing my BQ goal for next year. Probably will run a summer or fall marathon to qualify for Boston 2010, not sure which race yet. I saw someone that specializes in shin splints that suggested some physical therapy, different shoes, and exercises, and that said I shouldn't go back to full-speed training until February, so that's my plan. I'll be cross-training lots until then.

From Lucia on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:42:38

Thanks Marion and Walter - I hope Jill is just busy, but I haven't heard from her in a while... Who is the new guy from Arlington? There was another girl from DC a few months ago and then I lost her and can't remember her name... I'll have to search by location.

From walter on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:48:12

He's on the new kids on the blog name erictripr. Give him a shout and you guys will have a nice little community of runners.

From Erictripr on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 13:00:33

jajajaj gracias por el mensaje espero estes bien y sin mucho frio

From Burt on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 13:48:19

In my broken Spanish I translate that to mean "hahahaha, thanks for the back rub. I hope that you don't sin too much with refried beans."

I just realized that my previous comment should've said 10k. Not 5k. I'm slow, but not that slow.

From Lucia on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 14:03:06

Walter, you want to stay away from Eric - Puerto Ricans who support soccer team Boca Juniors (from Argentina) are not to be trusted!

Burt you crack me up!!! Mensaje = message. Masaje = massage. Sin with refried beans, that is just delirious! Now you have another Spanish-speaker to make fun of!

From Burt on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 14:10:17

un boricua!

frio = cold. frijole = refried beans.

My bad.

From Erictripr on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 14:12:24

From walter on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 14:27:46

You guys are having way too much fun! Shouldnt we be working? ha ha

Burt, Its too bad you live in Arizona, we could hang out! lol Hey tell me what camille is wearing right now, im going to play a joke on her.

From Kelli on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 00:02:31

That sounds and looks like it was a ton of fun! And you guys did GREAT!

How do you run as a team exactly???

From Lucia on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 07:35:37

Thanks Kelli - in this race it was very informal; teams could have any number of members, and the fastest 4 times add up to get your team score, at least one of them has to be a girl. But you don't have to stay together during the race.

From josse on Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 23:44:37

too much fun!! You always make me smile:)
