Ran home from work at sunset - a beautiful sunset. Not a good run though, my knees were in pain at first, then my left foot hurt a lot and I had to stop with 1/2 a mile to get home... I think I have tendonitis on top of my left foot, right where the foot and the leg meet... I'm going to take tomorrow off and bike only, to see if it feels better... PLEASE feel better little (ehem... I mean big) left foot!

Be careful! Taking it easy tomorrow sounds like a good idea. Take care of yourself!

You're lucky to have such a nice route to run home every night. Take it easy on yourself today and feel better. Tendonitis really stinks, so make sure you're watching yourself. When I had tendonitis last year around the same spot, my orthopedist had me get rigid insoles and told me to take 3 aleve twice a day. Just a thought....I hope this doesn't affect the hike on Saturday!!!! :)

Thanks for the tips, Aaron. I have rigid insoles but don't wear them all the time, I will now... and yes, taking ibuprofen should help with the swelling. Did you stop running, and if so, for how long? I don't think I'll need more than maybe 2 days... what do you think?

From Aaron-PSU on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 11:04:38

Lucia - When I had my tendonitis, I was dumb enough to run on it for 2.5 months before going to the doctor and shutting my running down. I actually stopped running for about 1.5 months before I started up again. I'd say just take it easy, ride that nice new bike of yours, and see how the ankle/foot feels in a week or so. I obviously waited too long before I saw a doctor. There are plenty of good doctors in the area, it is just next to impossible to get an appointment with one!

As much as I LOVE to read about your beautiful running grounds, from that shin to sore knees...it's probably time to give your body a little break (as much as I hate to do it, I would). I agree with Aaron up there. I get tendonitis frequently (in every set of joints I own). Aside from resting, glucosamine helps me, as does getting new shoes, or rotating shoes every other day (and also ibuprophen/naproxin for the pain and to stop the cycle of inflamation). You're smart to keep moving and get on your bike. I always love getting a massage when my body starts crying out for attention. But then again, I never tried to keep up the running when I was in school.....I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for you to recover. Good luck!

hey lucia, before all this running, I was a cyclist- raced for a local team, so I can really relate to the joy of being on a bike! Take care of yourself and let your body heal. Your bike came into your life at the perfect time! Time to check out RCP and some of the great trails in our area! Talk soon... I will give you my ipod list soon. It is kind of ridiculous- i listem to a bit of everything! later gator!
