Just another single 30-year old Argentine girl living the American dream in Washington DC and trying to run faster. Graduated from Southern Utah University in 2003, then moved to DC. I have a full-time job as research economist for an association in the transportation industry and I'm attempting to get my Master's degree in Economics from Johns Hopkins, part-time, while keeping my sanity!

Ran the Capitol Hill Classic 10k in 50 minutes and change (plus a warm-up mile and a mile back home). Was able to keep 8-minute mile pace until mile marker 5 - then the hill reaaaally caught up to me. I bike up that hill every day on my way back from work, I've ran the hill several times but on the sidewalk; running on the street appeared a lot steeper! The fact that you could see the runners going up it was terrible. This was a new course; the years prior you went down one side of the capitol building and up the other side, so you didn't see the runners going up, and you didn't go down and up the same exact hill... I think it made a difference. My pace was 8:07, not that bad but 2 minutes off my goal. I know I need to be patient... eat better - that's a big thing for me, I know if I can eat less "empty calories" I could improve my performance. I have a sweet tooth and it's hard for me to say no to baked goods and candybars...

Now there's another 10k coming up in June that I'll probably do and try to hit my goal again then. Until then, I'll keep focusing on improving my endurance and not so much speed yet. I need to be patient, I know it!

Ran to work from home in the morning in the pouring rain with my big backpack, after getting pretty much no sleep.

I'm very proud of myself.

Ran to work from home after a stop in Union Station to find out that MY BIKE GOT STOLEN!!!! Very very sad. My car got stolen two months ago, which adds to the madness.

At least I still have my running shoes and my legs! Maybe that's God's way of telling me I should run more!

After work on C&O Canal towpath, from work to Fletcher's boathouse. Ran very slow, about 10-min/mile pace. Took 1 hour.

Same route as yesterday - Office to Fletcher's boathouse. Ran slow the 3 miles there, and faster the 3 miles back - took 55 minutes. I love this route! Shins hurt a little, and the back of my left heel hurts somewhat too. I need to go to the store and get some new shoes. Not sure if the Superfeet insoles help or not.

Backpacking trip to West Virginia = 8 miles, very tough and mostly uphill, with very heavy backpacks because there is no water throughout the trail. No running, but my legs did get a good workout! Beautiful day.
